Why did you choose to study your programme with Heriot-Watt Online?
I chose Heriot-Watt because of its excellent global reputation in built environment programmes and the flexibility it offered through online learning. I was drawn to its strong academic foundation and practical industry alignment, and the ability to study while continuing my professional work was essential. Being based in Rwanda, it was important to me that the institution had a proven online delivery model and international recognition.
Overall, how was your experience studying online?
My online learning experience was exceptionally rewarding. The platform was intuitive, and the course materials were rich in content and contextually relevant. I appreciated the structured approach, regular feedback from tutors, and the diversity of students I engaged with, which created a truly global learning environment. I felt supported throughout the journey.
What aspects of your degree really appealed to you?
The degree offered a well-balanced blend of strategic, technical, and practical knowledge across key areas of construction project management. I was particularly drawn to its real-world application — from advanced technologies and contract management to leadership and risk-based decision-making. Each module gave me tools I could apply immediately in the workplace. The content was industry-relevant and designed to sharpen both technical and leadership capacities.
What impact has your degree had on your career so far?
Although I officially graduate in June, the impact of the programme has been immediate. As I progressed through the modules, my responsibilities at work grew steadily. My supervisors recognized the value I was gaining and entrusted me with greater leadership in ongoing capital projects. The skills, confidence, and perspective I've developed have already made a noticeable difference in how I manage resources, timelines, and teams.
What challenges have you faced while studying, and has the flexible nature of Heriot-Watt Online helped?
Balancing work, family life, and studies was quite challenging, especially with a young child at home. However, the flexibility of the programme allowed me to study during evenings and weekends. I appreciated being able to pace my learning based on my schedule without compromising quality or outcomes.
